How To Get Furniture In Minecraft

If you play Minecraft, the world's favorite modular building game, you might have noticed that your home in the game is more sparsely furnished than your real-world house. To remedy this, you'll need to learn how to build some virtual furniture using the resources available to you in the game. This article contains tutorials that will guide you through the construction of six different home appliances and pieces of furniture for your Minecraft house.

6 Appliances for Your Minecraft House

1. Couch
2. Refrigerator
3. Sink
4. Television
5. Table
6. Fireplace

This couch was constructed using wooden stair blocks, but you can use stair blocks of any material.

1. Couch

Constructing a couch in Minecraft is a relatively simple process. Even though your character cannot actually sit, this piece of furniture will look great in your house.

Supplies

• Minimum of 2 stair blocks
• 2 signs

Note: You need a minimum of two stair blocks because using only one stair block will automatically make a chair. To make a couch, you'll need two or more.

Procedure

1. Place the stair blocks next to each other.
2. Attach a sign to each end of the stair blocks. You should now have a couch that resembles the one above.

This refrigerator doesn't open and close, but it's close enough to its real-life counterpart for our purposes.

2. Refrigerator

A refrigerator is definitely a neat appliance to have in your Minecraft kitchen. The best part about it is that it actually works. I know what you're thinking: "A working refrigerator in Minecraft? Impossible!" While you can't make a perfectly lifelike refrigerator in the game, you can come pretty close.

Supplies

• 2 iron blocks
• 1 button
• 1 dispenser
• Food of your choice

Procedure

1. Place 1 iron block against a wall on the floor.
2. Before placing the second iron block on top, break the block in the wall that will end up being behind it. See the picture above? The block behind the top iron block must be destroyed so that the dispenser can take its place.
3. Fill the dispenser with the food of your choice, and then place the second iron block on top of the first. Your dispenser will be hidden from view.
4. Finally, place the button on the front. Voila! Now when you press the button, food will instantly be dispensed to you. Neat, huh?

This sink is simple, easy to make, and crucial to the visual appeal of any "Minecraft" kitchen.

3. Sink

It is fairly easy to make a sink using a few basic materials. While your sink won't actually work, its visual appearance will help complete the feel of your kitchen.

Supplies

• 1 bucket of water
• 1 cauldron
• 1 lever

Procedure

1. Place the cauldron down wherever you would like your sink to be.
2. Fill the cauldron with the water and place the lever above it (for display only) and you'll be done. It should look like the photo above. If desired, multiple cauldrons can be placed next to each other to create more than one sink basin.

While there are many different television designs available, they all have one thing in common: they're just for show.

4. Television

Ah, the television—it's a living room must, and it's also one of the most flexible creations in Minecraft. There are so many different television designs that it would be impossible to cover them all in this article. For now, I'm just going to give you a basic television design with a few optional components you can use to add to its authenticity.

Supplies

• 4–6 black wool or obsidian blocks (feel free to increase the number of blocks if you want a larger TV).
• Bookcase and/or other blocks (for the entertainment center in which the TV sits)
• 1 painting
• 1 button or lever (optional)
• Redstone (optional)
• Redstone lamps (optional)

Procedure (For a Basic TV)

1. First, place the blocks you want to use as your entertainment center on the ground. Chest and bookcase blocks are used in the example image above.
2. Next, place the black wool or obsidian blocks on top.
3. Finally, place a painting of your choice over these blocks and try to center it so that it resembles a television screen. There you have it!

Procedure (For a More Realistic TV)

If you look at the image above, you can see that the television itself is 2 x 4 blocks, meaning eight blocks altogether. To create a working, lighted television, here's what you need to do:

1. Reference the image above. Break the center 4 blocks so that the only blocks remaining are the 2 outer blocks on each side.
2. Replace the broken blocks with redstone lamps.
3. Place a painting over these 4 blocks.
4. You should know by now how to use redstone to power these lamps. Lead the redstone dust trail back to 1 entertainment center block, and place either a button or a lever on that specific block. In the example above, if you placed a button on the lower bookcase block, the redstone dust would power the lamps behind your painting and your television screen would be turned on!

Note: It's best to use a lever for this type of thing because buttons provide only temporary lighting. Levers keep the light on as long as they are flipped on.

This first type of table is the easiest to make, as it only requires two components.

5. Table

There are many ways to make tables. In this article, I will show you two. Don't worry, these tables work even if you're not using version 1.8.

Supplies (Table Style 1)

• 1 pressure plate
• 1 fence
  

Procedure (Table Style 1)

1. Place the fence on the ground where you want your table to be. It will give you an object similar to a pole. This is because fences need a minimum of two fence blocks to make a full fence.
2. After you've placed the fence block, put a pressure plate of your choice over it and you'll have a small table. You can create bigger tables with this method by following these same steps.

This piston-table is fairly easy to create if you have the necessary supplies.

Supplies (Table Style 2)

• 1 or more pistons
• 1 or more redstone torches
  

Procedure (Table Style 2)

1. Reference the picture above. Determine how large your table will be, then break that many floor blocks. If the table is only 2 blocks side by side, break 2 floor blocks.
2. Break one more block deep, then place a redstone torch.
3. Place your piston above the torch. The piston will eject and create a table-esque formation.
4. Repeat this process if you want to make the table larger.

This simple fireplace is surrounded by non-flammable brick blocks

6. Fireplace

What house would be complete without a fireplace? It gives a slight edge of class to your dwelling. It says, "Hey, I worked hard to break these blocks and build this house, so I deserve some ambiance." That's all fine and dandy, just be careful if your house is made out of wood. A fireplace can easily burn down a wooden house if built incorrectly.

Supplies

• Netherrack blocks
• Brick blocks (or block of your choice; this will be the actual fireplace)
• Flint and steel
• Iron bars (optional)
  

Procedure

1. Refer to the picture above. I gave no set amount of blocks for you to gather, simply because the fireplace is a versatile creation, meaning that it can be made in many different ways.
2. Remember to place the netherrack blocks down where your fire is going to be.
3. You also want to make sure that the fire has no way of escaping, so as a safety measure, build up brick blocks (or other blocks) behind the netherrack so that the backing of the fireplace is not flammable.
4. Once finished with the fireplace, use the flint and steel to ignite the flame.
5. Block off the front of your fireplace with iron bars (if desired).
